Rightmove listings error stops houses for sale being seen

Leading property search website Rightmove has transformed the way that people find and research homes for sale in recent times – but when mistakes are made, it can put sellers at a disadvantage, as homeowners in Bolton recently discovered.
An automatic boundary on the website mistakenly classed several areas of the town of Blackrod as being part of Chorley instead of Bolton, despite having postcodes relating to the latter. Initially Rightmove disputed the error, but later accepted and fixed it. Four affected properties had been on sale for more than a year.

“We don’t know for definite if this is the reason why the homes haven’t been sold, but it certainly hasn’t helped,” town councillor Stephen Laycock told The Bolton News.

He added: “[…] When anyone searched to find homes within a six mile radius of Bolton, the houses wouldn’t show up. It could have affected about 30 more homes if they were put on the market, so I am glad the situation has been resolved.”

Around 60% of all UK residential properties are thought to be sold with the help of exposure via Rightmove, making it very important for vendors hoping to sell on the open market. Alternatively, people choose to sell privately to an interested property buyer; or use national home buyers in the form of an express estate agency, when they need a quick sale for cash.

If you want to avoid dealing with estate agents, property search websites and multiple viewings, ask National Homebuyers for advice, as we’ll buy any home for cash. Call 08000 443 911 or request a call back to find out how much you could get for your property.
