Estate agents lose interest in slow-selling homes

If a property has been on the market for more than 14 days, estate agents are less likely to put effort into selling it. That’s according to a recent survey in which more than 2,000 sellers were polled about their experiences.

flying homes out the doorOnline estate agent HouseSimple.com found that 51% of vendors were asked to drop the price if their house didn’t sell quickly – and also had to start nagging their estate agent for updates, as they no longer appeared motivated to sell.

Furthermore, 21% of property sellers said around half of viewings were organised for people who were unlikely to consider buying their house – and in London and Wales, this rose to around 40% of sellers. Of course, this is very frustrating for anyone who wants to sell property fast.

When asked if they thought the estate agent was worth their fee – usually a percentage of the house sale value – 42% of sellers said no, while 28% said they didn’t think their agent had put enough effort into marketing the house to relevant prospective buyers.

And when it came to sale value, 27% said their estate agent only secured a solitary offer for their home, meaning there was no competition between buyers and therefore no opportunity to attract higher offers.
