No one wakes up one morning and says “I think I will enjoy a home repossession today.” But sadly it has become fact that many people all over the country are being forced to learn to deal with and survive through a home repossession. It is not something that anyone wants to do but there are a few ways to get through it and still be ok.
Tip #1: Don’t beat yourself up over it
You are not alone in the fact that your home is going to be repossessed. It is a fact that many people are being faced with. The economy is down and with the rising pressure of maintaining a job, family, food, clothing and mortgages many people are falling short simply because they just don’t have enough income to support all the things that they need to. This is not your fault it is just a fact that must be faced. Tip #2: Be prepared for the repossession
If you are facing a home repossession you know that it is coming. You need to be prepared for this to happen. Prior to the date of repossession you need to have other living arrangements in place. Find an apartment or home to rent or have family in place so you and your family know where you are going from here. You also need to get all of your possessions out of the home prior to the repossession date. Once that date arrives by law they can make you leave all of your possessions in the home. Don’t lose everything you own just because your home is being repossessed. Get your thinks out even if you need to place them in storage. Tip #3: Prepare your children
If your children are young they do not need to know the specifics of what is going on. Simply telling them that you are moving to a certain place will be enough information for them. Older children may need more information and more of an advanced notice. By giving them the proper amount of information you will be able to support them better in this difficult time for all of you.
Tip #4: Don’t demolish the inside of the home
No matter how angry you are don’t become destructive on the home. Not only is this not a good example for your children but it also doesn’t do anything good for you. You want the home to be resold for as much as possible so the larger the amount the more will go toward the debt you owe and make settling this situation much easier. If you become destructive them the property will not sell for much, leaving you without a home and in a large amount of debt.
Being involved in a home repossession is a hard thing for all the people involved, but remember that this is just a bump in the road and you will get through it and come out on the other side.
