While the rest of the UK is suffering financial difficulties in the credit crunch, those in Scotland are doing a bit better, it has emerged.
Scotland could be spared the brunt of the economic difficulties for the moment, the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) said, as houses remain relatively affordable north of the border
But the shortage of funding is continuing to restrict mortgage availability across the UK.
Kennedy Foster, Scotland policy consultant at the Council of Mortgage Lenders, said: "The shortage of mortgage funding has had a dramatic impact across the UK and we expect the slowdown to get worse before it gets better."
Mortgage interest payments reportedly account for 18.5 per cent of the average borrower's income in the UK, compared to 16.9 per cent for Scots.
A recent survey from Kensington revealed that men are less confident then women in the current economic climate.
